Origami Bridge

Spring 2018, Negar Kalantar

In collaboration with Jessica Stark, we designed a portable bridge to allow soldiers to carry a bridge on their backs and deploy it on site. The project was inspired by a strong origami structure called the Zippered Tube. The paper structure was converted into panels and hinges. The hinges were produced from a flexible 3D printed plastic in a custom living hinge. There is also a ramp system that allows the soldiers to change the angle necessary to walk up for different terrains. The walkways disperse the weight of the soldiers that walk on top of the bridge.
